Second Opinions
She called a few other mechanics to check their pricing for the repair of a cracked engine block, but they were all about the same price. She ended up taking it to the second mechanic she contacted because he said he would be able to finish it quicker than the first repairman that diagnosed the problem.
My daughter received a call the next day telling her that she did not have a cracked engine block. He said there were some leaks that needed to be repaired which would cost a few hundred dollars, but it would not be necessary to get a new engine block.
I have often heard that it is wise to get a second opinion when considering surgery, or treatment for serious medical conditions. My daughter's experience with her car, made me realize that it is a good idea to get a second opinion for anything that is going to cost over $250. By the way, you can quickly retrieve needed information to compare services and prices without leaving your home by using computer search engines.
